外交官。アラビスト。一橋大学国際・公共政策大学院教授。前駐イラク特命全権大使。昭和四〇年、岐阜県岐阜市生まれ。AFSにてモンタナ州カリスペルに交換留学、フラットヘッド高校卒業。東京大学教養学部卒業後、昭和六三年、外務省入省。カイロ・アメリカン大学、パリ政治学院にて研修。在ニューヨーク総領事館首席領事、駐シリア臨時代理大使兼シリア特別調整官、外務省国際情報統括官組織国際情報官、内閣情報調査室国際部主幹を歴任。日英仏アラビア語に堪能。

Futoshi MATSUMOTO

Diplomat. Arabist. Professor at School of International and Public Policy, Hitotsubashi University. Former Ambassador of Japan to Iraq. Born in Gifu in 1965. Graduated from Flathead High School in Kalispell, Montana, U.S. as exchange student on AFS program. After having graduated from University of Tokyo, he joined Japanese Foreign Service in 1988. He studied Arabic at American University in Cairo and Modern Middle Eastern Studies at Sciences-Po in Paris. He was posted as Deputy Consul General in Japanese Consulate General in New York and Chargé d'Affaires in Japanese Embassy in Syria and Special Coordinator for Syria, representing the government of Japan.  He was also director for security intelligence in the Intelligence and Analysis Service (IAS) in the Foreign Ministry of Japan and director for international affairs in the Japanese Cabinet Intelligence and Research Office(CIRO). Fluent in Japanese, English, French and Arabic.
